# Account settings

> Update your display name, photo, and personal preferences.

Account settings holds your profile and preferences.

Update your display name, photo and personal preferences here. Security options live in the
[Security Center](/account/security).

## Who can use it

Every authenticated user, for their own account.

## What you can change here

| Setting                  | Notes                                                  |

  You cannot change your own role. Roles are assigned by an Organization Admin on the organization
  team.

## Updating your profile

    Use the name colleagues will recognise. It appears on records you create and in audit trails.

    Optional, but helps in larger agencies.

    Interface preferences apply to your account only.

<Tip>
  Your display name appears in the audit trail against actions you take. A recognisable name makes
  audit review considerably easier than an ambiguous one.

## Troubleshooting

| Problem                           | What to check                                                                         |
| --------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| I cannot change my role           | Roles are assigned by an Organization Admin.                                          |
| I want to change my sign-in email | Use [Security](/account/security).                                                    |
| My name appears wrong on records  | Update your display name here. Existing audit entries keep the name used at the time. |
| I am not receiving notifications  | Check your email address, then notification subscriptions.                            |
